Scaffolding

The way to better understanding

Hello, all. I hope you had a lovely holiday and are ready to start in on more comprehensible input! Our class tomorrow focuses on building background information, which is all about building scaffolding and making content more comprehensible.

I can’t wait to show you tools that can be used to really get to the heart of what you are trying to teach. Video, Photos, Field Trips, and Vocabulary all help us to bridge the gap for our students.

One thing I do need to mention, though, is that we use scaffolding to make information comprehensible to our students. Eventually, we need to take it away, so they can reach those heights all by themselves.

If the scaffolds are not eventually removed, our students will never become self-sufficient. And that is our goal: How can we get them to become independent in the mainstream classroom? Tools we use now will help them gain independence in the future.
