It’s break time.
This year, I moved from elementary ESL to high school ESL. Again.
It’s been years since I taught at the high school level. And I remember how I loved talking to almost-adults and how they challenged me.
And I remember how I hated talking to almost-adults.
And how they challenged me.
And yet, I have to admit that I am having fun learning this job again. I always said that I would make a much better high school teacher after having more elementary experience. And I am better at it. I just wish I had a curriculum all set out. And I don’t. I feel very reactive.
And now we’re at semester break and I can breathe and reflect. I need to come up with a plan over break, and my mind is working overtime, as based on my lack of sleep at 5 this morning… So many ideas to try!
My biggest accomplishment this year, though, has been starting Guerilla Professional Development through the use of 3-minute videos. You can see what I have done here.
I got the idea by watching a video from someone on YouTube identifying herself as TheWellmanj. I loved what she had done. You can see her videos here. I asked if I could collaborate. I got no answer. So now, two years later, I’ve started my own subversive PD.
So I head into the new year, hoping that the next half will be just as productive as the first one.
And that I’ll find a better, faster, more productive way to get my students to write well.
