I am applying to be a PBS Innovative Teacher, and part of the application is to show what technology I am using with my students and how it is innovative work.

I’ve said before in this blog that I truly believe that by NOT teaching English language learners how to effectively use technology, we are sentencing them to a life of poverty. Without technology, one has very little chance of moving forward.

Our students generally come from poverty; whether they were in their home countries is nearly irrelevant. Doctors and lawyers in countries of origin become the janitors and night watchmen in their adopted homes. I’ve seen it happen. People who were teachers in Nepal now consider themselves lucky to get a position as an educational assistant, a job that requires here only a high school diploma, and the pay matches that level of education.

So it is our job to make sure students can get to the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which they are creating while using technology.

Now I’ll step off my soapbox.
