I’m a rabble-rouser. I get myself in trouble, mostly because I don’t know how to finesse. Or I choose not to.
I am a bull in a china shop.
Sometimes, that’s just what is needed. Most of the time, it’s not. But that hasn’t stopped me. I just keep doing what I think is right.
I’ve decided to start my videos up again in the new year. I’ll try to publish one every couple of weeks. And this time, I’m doing it on my own, so that nobody can try to impinge my content.
I got shut down last school year because I started sending the videos to the school board members because I thought it was important they know about the issues students face before they slice the budget. (The classes that were cut were primarily those my students could access. And I thought it was important that that not happen.) And as I understand it, one of them was upset that the quality was bad, and that his inbox was being filled with nonsense.
This school board member–whose name was not shared with me, but I have a pretty good idea who it is–apparently went to my supervisor. And she wanted to be able to review everything I did before I published it.
That didn’t sit well with me, since I was trusted enough to do it for almost two years without oversight. Being a former journalist, the move smacked to me of prior restraint.
And I chose to stop rather than be censored.
And, I don’t think it’s nonsense. And I’ll work on the quality. And I’ll still send it out to the school board, using my own email rather than work email. I’ll still send it to principals and ask if they would like to share.
And I’m still a bit of a bull in a china shop.
Let’s see where this gets me in the new year…
