Just another WordPress.com site

Learning first-hand?

I accidentally bumped into this website tonight.

Wouldn’t it be cool if all administrators took this challenge?

I wish I lived in a world where it was normal to pop in at a student’s house. If a child has been gone a day or two, or if there were rumors that the heat was off. Or if everything was going well, and it just seemed like the right thing to let the parents know. Or maybe, if we opened our minds just enough, we could learn something new.

I don’t live in that world. I try. But it’s hard fitting it in.

I don’t remember ever having been in that world, even in Kansas where there truly is nothing going on. Nobody just “popped by.”

I don’t remember teachers checking in. Seeing how I was doing. Maybe, just maybe, I would have tuned in more if I knew somebody cared enough to ask.

Such a cool idea, you shadow a student folks. Check their site out. It’s got a lot of resources, aimed at principals, with supports to make it happen and what to do with the information you glean.

I hope somebody out there is listening.
