Just another WordPress.com site

Since I’m going to register as Muslim when the religious registry is instituted, I should start learning how to wear my hijab…

Our country is heading in a bad direction…

My husband is just now reading to me a story from the NYTimes that says immigrants are cutting back on non-essential purchases, just in case they have to leave or are deported.

And they are not just taking their money if they leave.

They are taking rent money.

And taxes.

And jobs they may be providing.

From the Times story:

If they were to leave the city, either by returning on their own to their home countries or by government order, “it could be a massive ripple effect,” Jonathan Bowles, executive director of the Center for an Urban Future, said.

“You take away upwards of a half-million undocumented immigrants,” Mr. Bowles added, “and these are folks that pay taxes, that spend money in their communities, that may be employing other New Yorkers. And we could see others take flight.”

Rough seas ahead, my friends. Rough seas ahead.
