Happy Holi

Holi (होली) is a colourful and happy Hindu holiday celebrated primarily in India on the last full moon of the lunar month of Phalguna at the end of the winter season. It falls in either late February or early March. It is also known as the Festival of Colours.

It’s so funny how many students tried for a while to stay clean…and then couldn’t. They gave in to the allure of getting colorful. And flinging colors in each others’ faces. You can see my morphing. From a sweet purple tika mark to just a total mess. And yes, I went to my daughter’s parent-teacher conference that way. It made for a great conversation starter.

We had a lot of participants. The cafeteria staff showed up. And there were middle schoolers and even a few elementary students who joined in the fun.

We are all waiting, with some trepidation for the budget axe to fall. I don’t know if this link will stay live, but it outlines the teaching positions to be cut for next year. This is the third year running. And contract negotiations are also in a nosedive.

Like my colleague Sue said in the invitation to come play Holi, “…we really need some fun these days!”
